BLINK OF AN EYE

You let out one small cry
Before they placed you in my arms.

So tiny –
You wiggled in your blanket,
Pursed your lips,
And opened your dark blue eyes.

I looked away for one brief moment
Distracted by what caught your gaze.

When I looked back,
There was a woman in your stead --
Smiling at my bewilderment...
----Twirlling in her prom dress,
------Heading out the door.
